Women's Kashmiri Embroidered Kaftans

A Pheran is a traditional long robe originating in the Kashmir Valley. It has been worn for centuries as both an everyday garment and a formal outer layer. Unlike a regular kaftan — which is typically lightweight and printed — a Pheran is structured with longer sleeves, a straighter cut, and is made from heavier wool-blend or cotton fabric. It often features Kashmiri embroidery on the yoke, sleeves, or hem.

This collection uses two main craft techniques. Aari embroidery is done with a fine hooked needle that pulls coloured threads through the fabric, creating raised floral motifs — primarily on the yoke. The floral woven kaftans use a jacquard-style weaving technique where the pattern is built directly into the fabric during weaving, not added on top. Both are Kashmiri craft traditions with distinct visual characters.

All kaftans and Pherans in this collection are free size OS (one size). The chest range is approximately 36–46 inches. The length is 50–60 inches and sleeves measure 24–26.5 inches. These kaftans suit a wide range of occasions. The Aari yoke-work Pheran in cotton is comfortable for daily ethnic wear, Eid, Diwali, and family gatherings. The floral woven wool-blend kaftan is more structured and suited for winter weddings, festive dinners, and formal occasions. The printed embroidered Pheran falls between both — suitable for semi-formal events and occasions where you want craft without heaviness.

It depends on the fabric. Cotton Aari-embroidered kaftans can be hand washed gently in cold water. Avoid scrubbing embroidered areas. Wool-blend floral woven kaftans should be dry cleaned to protect both the woven structure and any added embroidery. For all styles, lay flat in shade to dry and iron on low heat using a pressing cloth over embroidered sections. Avoid machine washing any embroidered piece.
