Aari embroidery is done with a hooked needle that pulls thread through the fabric to create raised floral or leaf patterns — it is applied after the shawl is woven. Kani is a weaving technique where coloured threads are woven directly into the fabric using small wooden bobbins (kani), creating patterns that are part of the fabric itself, not added later. Kani shawls typically take longer to make and are considered a higher craft form.

Yes. Our collection includes both pure wool shawls (100% sheep wool) and wool-blend shawls (wool mixed with acrylic/polyester for added softness and affordability). Each product listing clearly states the fabric composition. Pure wool shawls provide superior warmth and are more breathable.

Dry cleaning is recommended for embroidered and Kani shawls to preserve the thread-work. Plain wool shawls can be hand-washed gently in cold water with a mild detergent. Never wring or tumble-dry a woollen shawl — lay it flat to dry in shade. Store folded (not hung) with a cedar block to prevent moth damage.
