The word Jamawar comes from the Persian "jama" (robe) and "war" (yard of fabric). Traditionally made by hand on Kashmiri looms using a technique similar to Kani weaving, Jamawar is today also produced on power looms which makes it more accessible while retaining the signature visual richness.
